County Criminal Court Number One is one of ten courts in Tarrant County that hears Class A and B misdemeanor cases which are punishable by confinement  in the Tarrant County Jail.

Types of Cases:

Hundreds of types of cases are tried in misdemeanor courts. The most common types of cases heard in misdemeanor courts include:

  • Assault
  • Possession of marihuana and other drug charges
  • Shoplifting and other forms of theft
  • Driving While Intoxicated

The Parties:

The State is represented by the Assistant District Attorney; each defendant has a right to be represented by an attorney.

The Role of the Judge: 

Some cases are resolved by jury trial, some by trial to the judge, some by plea agreements, and some by dismissal. The judge must resolve cases where the State is seeking to revoke a defendant’s probation. The judge is also responsible for deciding what action is  appropriate when a defendant fails to appear for a court date.

The 2014 Election Year:

The incumbent judge of County Criminal Court Number One is not seeking re-election. Don Hase is running to become the judge of this court.
